Skill Priority Tier List

The Suncraft skill priority tier list ranks every major branch from the February 2026 skill tree revamp through the July 28, 2026 full release. Spicy Tuna Games deliberately moved away from flat stat stickers toward upgrades that change how you play—automated fueling, faster Ember, storage chests, and sprint across the sun-soaked map. This page tells you which nodes earn an S rating on day one and which can wait until your furnaces run themselves.

If you have not opened the tree yet, start with Getting Started and the Skill Tree guide for branch layout. Return here when you have one or two unspent points and want a confident pick.

Tier list criteria

We score skills on four axes:

  1. Hours saved before Sunspire repairs — Does the skill remove a repetitive loop?
  2. Quest compatibility — Does it help planks, iron, glass, or steel milestones?
  3. Synergy with Ember — Fuel automation multiplies every furnace you build later.
  4. Opportunity cost — What you delay by taking this node first.

S tier — Unlock as soon as the branch allows

Automation (fueling skills)

Automation sits at S tier because manual coal feeding is the biggest friction point in the first three hours. Once buildings can receive fuel without your constant clicks, you free attention for gathering, quest dialogue, and placing a second furnace. Demo players consistently rated automation as the update that made the game feel like a true incremental sim rather than a clicker with extra steps.

Pair automation with Ember unlocks. Ember automatically fuels buildings after her introduction quest—skills that increase her speed or reliability belong in the same priority bucket.

Ember skills (speed and efficiency)

Ember skills are S tier the moment Ember joins your village. She watches shard struggles so you do not have to. Nodes that increase Ember speed, extend her coverage, or reduce downtime between fuel runs compound with every new workstation. In multi-furnace layouts documented on Early Game Builds, Ember is the difference between two parallel smelters and one smelter plus a idle second slot.

Deep Pockets (carry capacity)

Deep Pockets and related carry upgrades rank S tier for players who have not yet built storage chests near ore routes. Suncraft punishes inventory trips: walking from quartz nodes to a central furnace with a full stack of coal and iron ore wastes minutes that automation cannot fix. Deep Pockets is often the best pick before sprint if your map layout forces long hauls.

A tier — Strong second-wave picks

Damage multiplier

Damage multiplier skills land in A tier—not because they are weak, but because their value spikes after you know which resource nodes gate quests. Early game shard clearing is real, yet many players over-invest in click damage before furnaces and Ember stabilize output. Take damage multiplier once automation and carry are online, or immediately if a quest hard-requires breaking a specific deposit faster than base tools allow.

Damage multiplier also synergizes with equipment tier upgrades on Equipment Upgrades—a higher-tier pickaxe plus multiplier clears quartz and mineral veins for tram rebuilds without idle waiting.

Storage chest unlock path

Storage chests entered the game with the skill tree revamp as a buildable structure for organizing resources. The skill nodes that unlock or improve chest capacity sit at A tier: essential before mid-game recipe chains, but slightly below automation if you still hand-feed coal. Build chests adjacent to furnaces and Ember pathing—details in our Resource Chain Planner.

B tier — Situational but powerful

Sprint

Sprint was added by popular demand from playtesters. It is legitimately great—traversing the map at higher speed feels wonderful once you unlock distant biomes and coin vendors in the full release. We rate sprint B tier only because it does not increase material throughput. Grab sprint after Deep Pockets or when quest lines send you across the village three times per minute.

Click speed and spawn rate nodes

Legacy-style click speed and extra spawn rate skills remain useful for active players who prefer manual gathering sessions. Incremental veterans often ignore these in favor of automation; active cozy players may bump them to A tier personally. Default ranking: B tier until furnaces outproduce your clicks.

C tier — Delay until late early game

Minor flat stat boosts without mechanics

Any remaining nodes that only add small percentages without unlocking buildings, companions, or automation fall to C tier under the revamp design philosophy Spicy Tuna Games described in Skill Tree Revamp. If a tooltip only says plus five percent with no new verb, deprioritize it.

Niche branches locked behind late quests

Skills gated behind unexplored areas or finale content belong at C tier for launch week—not because they are bad, but because you cannot access them during the first-hour checklist on Early Game Builds.

  1. Path toward automation fueling.
  2. First Ember speed or reliability node available.
  3. Deep Pockets or first carry upgrade.
  4. Unlock storage chest construction if inventory is still a bottleneck.
  5. Damage multiplier for gated nodes.
  6. Second furnace support skills or extra Ember coverage.
  7. Sprint when travel time annoys you more than smelting speed.
  8. Equipment synergy nodes if paired with tier upgrades.
  9. Click speed only if you skip automation temporarily.
  10. Revisit the tree after Full Release coins and blueprint shop opens—new branches may shift this order.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Is damage multiplier or automation better first?

Automation first for most players. Damage multiplier wins if a specific quest node blocks progression and you cannot craft a higher equipment tier yet.

Does sprint help with crafting speed?

No. Sprint only increases movement speed. It does not affect furnaces, Ember, or workstation timers.

Are Ember skills worth it before unlocking Ember?

You cannot benefit until Ember joins the village. Path toward her quest early, then spend Ember skill points immediately after recruitment.

How does Deep Pockets interact with storage chests?

Deep Pockets helps on gathering routes; chests help at base. Ideal players grab both—carry for field work, chests for sorting planks, bars, and coal near furnaces.

Did the skill tree revamp reset demo saves?

No reset required. Demo progress carries over to the full release. The revamp replaced old static boosts with the automation-focused nodes ranked on this page.
